What are Medicare Supplement Plans (Medigap plans)?

When choosing a Medigap plan, it’s important to know the facts. Medicare supplement plans can help you pay Medicare deductibles, copays and coinsurance. Medicare supplement plans are also known as Medigap plans because they help you pay the "gap" between what original Medicare pays (Medicare Parts A – hospital insurance and Medicare Part B – medical plans) and what you pay from your own pocket.

What are Medicare Advantage Plans (MAPD)?

Medicare Advantage plans, otherwise known as MAPD or “Part C” plans, are an alternative to Medicare supplement plans and include both Medicare health coverage and usually Medicare drug coverage (Medicare Part D are prescription drug plans). Medicare Advantage plans often have low premiums and are guaranteed approved for people with certain disabilities. MAPD plans are not supplemental insurance.
